How to correctly work with tags in the translation editor, how to avoid errors with tags
What are tags in Text United?
All documents contain both some textual data and formatting. In Text United, during the files processing, formatting information is separated from the actual text, and the text is segmented (separated in individual sentences).
Tags on the other hand, contain information about formatting and structure of your document.
To make sure that you can obtain your translation in the same format as the original source document, Text United will hide the formatting and structure information within tags. This enables the system to re-built your translated document in its initial format, but with the content translated.
Important: Text United is removing as many tags as possible from the text for translation, leaving only those, which are necessary for translators to be aware of (for instance if the order of the sentence should be changed in target language)
Less tags makes translation easier for translators and helps them to avoid linguistic mistakes during translation.
In the Text United online translation editor, tags are displayed with yellow icons green and numbers.
In the Text United application translation editor, tags are displayed with green icons and numbers.
Therefore, it's important to keep the tags in the right place when translating segments so the tags information will be maintained.
How to place tags in the translation editor?
In Text United translation editors tags are displayed with yellow (Online version) and green (desktop App) icons and numbers.
To place tags in the online editor use these functions:
- Insert tag (ctrl+space) place the cursor where you want to insert the tag and use this option to place your tags.
Copy Source to Target when editing a segment, this will copy all the text from the source segment into the currently open target segment, including all tags.
To place tags in the Text United App use the:
Copy Source to Target function when editing a segment
Insert next tag (CTRL+E) function, this will allow you to insert semi-automatically tags starting from the first one to the last one. Make sure to place them in the correct position one after another, otherwise you will not be able to save the segment.
Note: you cannot drag & drop the tags in the application, only in the Online editor.
Because inline tags can be freely manipulated, translators can accidentally distort the formatting and structure of a file. Therefore Text United performs a number of checks that produce warnings which will prevent translators from saving a segment if tags' order is not correct or any tag is missing.
If the tag order is correct but the spaces around the tags are differing from the source segment, you will be able to save the segment but you'll still get a warning message "Different tag spaces".
Important - missing tags error
Make sure to correct segments that contain the messages.
- Missing tags - Indicates that one or more tags are not inserted. Insert all the tags that are shown in the source segment and click on save this segment
- Possible incorrect tag order - Make sure that the tags are placed in the same order as they are shown in the source segment. Once you correct the order click on save this segment
It will not be possible to generate a translated file unless all of the segments with red warnings are corrected. You can easily spot the tag related warning messages as they have a red warning icon next to them. You can also use the filter option "With warnings" to filter out all segments that contain warning messages.
